The Beaverbrook Art Gallery offers FREE admission and programs to visitors of all ages on the last Sunday of each month from 12 pm to 5 pm!
1) Guided tours: 1-2pm English; 2-3pm French (please meet at the Welcome Desk beside the elevators)
2) Free activities:
• 12-5pm RBC Learning Centre
Plant painting with Shinaid McGillivray. Explore your inner naturalist by painting using a bouquet of local plants from the Gallery’s surrounding land. The Wolastoq River nourishes the land all around us. Discover the plants and create paintings with your plant-brush!
• 12-5pm Front steps (In case of rain – Orientation gallery)
Anniversary art activity. This year, for the Gallery’s 60th anniversary, we’re celebrating the last 60 years, and the 60 yet to come! Stop by our art cart and help us imagine what the Gallery will look like 60 years from now (in 2079) by drawing your predictions!
• 12pm-5pm Education Room
Postcard Paintings with Brittany Schuler. Create your masterpiece inspired by the collection! Use the gilded postcards to paint in the style of Krieghoff, Turner, or Dali! Brittany Schuler is a landscape artist living and working in Fredericton, N.B. She studied Fine Arts and French Studies at Mount Allison University. Her work is greatly inspired by her travels as well as the beautiful back woods of New Brunswick.
• 12pm-5pm Jean E. Irving River Gallery
Create shadow puppets inspired by characters in the art works! Use papers and stickers to assemble your puppet on a stick and create your own story to perform.
• 12pm-5pm Gallery-Wide sketching!
Please try out our drawing stations throughout the gallery. Create portraits, landscapes, and abstracts with colour pencils.
• 3pm-3:10pm Elizabeth A Currie Gallery on the Green. Presentation:
Meatball the Cat – A Shadow Adventure. Co-Created by Solo Chicken Productions & Grey Rabbit Theatre Co. Performed by Dustyn Forbes and Naomi McGowan.Join our hero Meatball the Cat as they wake up to a beautiful morning in Fredericton and head out for an adventure full of beautiful trees, new friends, and epic views! This whimsical little shadow puppetry show was created in July 2019 when Solo Chicken & Grey Rabbit were Fredericton Arts Alliance Artists in Residence in the Barracks. The play is based on poetry written by young Fredericton artists under the tutelage of Poet Laurate Jenna Lyn Albert at The Fredericton Public Library. Artists Laura-Beth Bird, Kira Chisholm, Dustyn Forbes and Naomi McGowan created the work! (Approx. 7 Minutes)
