In Madawaska, people from all walks of life are making healthy choices and joining the Wellness Movement. This past October, during Wellness Week, The New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL), in partnership with Atelier des Copains and the owners of Glazier Lake Chalets organized a special Nature Day for locals living with intellectual disabilities. The event took place on October 5th, and saw all participants meeting at Glazier Lake for a day of exercise, social interaction, nature and healthy eating.
With more than 25 organizers, volunteers and participants, the day was a huge success. Those present walked throughout the lake’s paths, taking in the autumn colours and collecting various items that were later used for the purpose of crafting. After a morning of hiking and good times, everyone gathered for a healthy lunch, leaving behind any chips and chocolate, feasting instead on salads and fruit as a part of their meal.
The lake, which borders New Brunswick, Quebec and Maine, provided the perfect backdrop for a great time and lots of photographs.
Over the course of October designated ‘Wellness Month’ – the group also took part in a daily noon-hour walk to promote active living and social interaction. These activities prompted glowing feedback, with a good time had by all, and discussions are already underway for next year’s activities.
